What is causing my pain?

Pain is a complex process involving physical changes, chemical signaling, and electrical impulses that alert the brain to potential problems in the body. It can be caused by inflammation, nerve dysfunction, mechanical stress, or chronic conditions. While age-related changes—such as arthritis or disc degeneration and bulging—are common, they don’t always cause pain. However, inflammation in these areas can increase pain sensitivity and may require treatment. Pain can also result from nerve compression or irritation, often due to poor posture or heavy lifting. In such cases, treatment may be necessary to relieve symptoms and restore function.

Rather than giving temporary relief with relaxing massage, we focus on addressing its underlying causes—whether they stem from inflammation, structural imbalances, or other contributing factors. This is why we take a comprehensive approach that considers multiple aspects of your health, including diet, sleep, and mental well-being- in addition to physical factors. If you choose to make manual therapy a part of your maintenance regimen, our goal is to detect dysfunction early and help manage it before inflammation or pain develops. By supporting the body’s natural healing processes, we aim to enhance mobility, reduce discomfort, and improve overall well-being.

How long will it take to resolve?

It may take up to 3 sessions to see any results, but almost everyone sees improvement after the first. The total number of sessions depends on the severity of the issue, length of time it’s been going on, the ability to eliminate complicating factors (such as diet, ergonomic equipment, and sleep habits), and the client’s ability to complete stretching and exercise assignment. We will assess to see if this therapy is the right fit for you and will refer out if we believe it won’t help, or if you need adjunctive therapies. If there is little to no improvement in 3 sessions, or if there is ever a cease in improvement, we will refer you to the specialist we believe best suited to treat you. Bear in mind for chronic conditions, old injuries, or issues aggravated by lifestyle factors that cannot be resolved, a regular maintenance routine may be necessary to keep you out of pain.

Please be aware, the outcome will also likely be dependent on your ability to complete at-home assignments as discussed by your therapist. We understand that not all lifestyles can accommodate daily stretching and exercises, and a routine maintenance program may be appropriate to keep you out of pain, particularly if you are seeking to avoid medication.

What kind of clothes should I wear?

We can work over all clothes except heavy denim and leather belts. Wearing lightweight/stretchy clothing is preferred in case we want to incorporate stretching, but if you are not able to, we will assign the stretches after the session.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, debit/credit card, Zelle, Apple Pay, and HSA/FSA. We also provide superbills on request. *3% processing fees apply to card transactions.
